Triple Burner Meditation
The “three burning spaces” or the “Triple Burner” refers to the division of the torso into upper, middle, and lower. The Upper Burner” corresponds to the area between the solar plexus and clavicle. Its function is respiration and its main organs are the lungs and heart-pericardium. The Middle Burner corresponds to the area between the solar plexus and the navel. Its function is digestion and its main organs are the spleen, stomach, liver, and gallbladder. The Lower Burner corresponds to the area between the navel and the pubic bone. Its function is elimination and its main organs are the kidneys, bladder, and lower intestines. These three areas are complementary in function, each supporting the other. The total health of the body depends upon the harmonious interaction of these three functions.
Note: All exercises should be performed with relaxation and the knees bent 1 to 3 inches. The spine should be erect and the breath focused in the lower belly. Stand and hold each position for 12 to 30 breaths. Upon completion of the series, rub your palms together and lightly wipe the head, shoulders, neck, arms, torso, and legs. Then walk around in a relaxed manner for 2 to 3 minutes.
Exercise 1:
Stand in a shoulder width stance, feet parallel balanced upon the ball of the foot and the heel. Raise your arms until the palms face the upper lungs. The arms should be held in a relaxed circle. Breathe into your lower abdomen and through your nose. Place the tip of the tongue tightly on the upper palate. Imagine connecting the Qi of the palms with your lungs. Feel the energy circulate through your arms, out your palms, and into your lungs.
Exercise 2:
Lower your arms until your palms face your liver, stomach and spleen. Imagine connecting the Qi of the palms with these organs. Feel the energy circulate through your arms, out your palms and into your liver, stomach, and spleen.
Exercise 3:
Lower your arms until your palms face your lower abdomen. Imagine connecting the Qi of the palms with the ovaries, ascending – sigmoid colon or bladder. Feel the energy circulate through your arms, out your palms, and into your lower belly.
Exercise 4:
Lower your arms to your side and rotate your elbows away from your body. Bend your wrists so that the palms face the ground. Relax your whole body and let the Qi flow unobstructed from the soles of your feet to the top of your head. Focus your breath in your lower abdomen.
